“I greatly appreciate this initiative from the village because it demonstrates once again how active our village associations are and, together with the Schleitheimertal Museum, is helping to make our community’s name known far beyond our municipal borders.”
Urs Fischer
Mayor of Schleitheim
‘I am pleased with the lasting effect. People from all over the world come to visit us, from places where Baptists have been tolerated.’
Willi Bächtold
Honorary President of the Association for Local History Schleitheim and Initiator of the Anabaptist Room
The ‘Anabaptist Café’...
The main objective of the whole commemoration is to encourage encounters. Amongst other things, we would like to organise an Anabaptist exhibition, which is located in a large café. In this way, people automatically come into contact with each other.
For this purpose we have an auditorium with a stage available. Someone from the village is supposed to offer coffee and cake. Along the walls, however, there are partition walls and tables for a very special exhibition that has never been seen in Schaffhausen / Schleitheim before:
The idea is that visitors from abroad can give an insight into their culture:
Quilts?
Other typical small items
Photos / pictures
Typical textiles
Typical Dresses
Children and young people should also be able to do something (something practical is very popular or maybe a little game?), participation is required at some of the exhibition posts
Clever ideas are needed...
Status of planning:
A Swiss Mennonite organisation will exhibit
A Swiss quilt collector will exhibit

Information about Anabaptists in Stühlingen and the surrounding area...
So far it is only known that Balthasar Hubmaier acted as an Anabaptist leader in Waldshut and that an unknown Swiss Anabaptist bought a mill in Mauchen.
We are interested in further evidence of Anabaptist activities in our German neighborhood: stories, places, names...

We’re looking for independent, capable people who can film important events and, if possible, edit the footage accordingly—plays, talks, guided tours, and more.
We’ll use the results in the future for our virtual museum, so visitors can stay informed even when the museum is closed.

The organizing committee and the many volunteers work in their free time for the event without pay. However, costs still arise, for example for matching T-shirts for helpers or for the memorial.
